Create a Dial-Up Networking Connection:To create a new connection, do the following: On the Desktop, click the Start button and select Settings → Network and Dial-Up Connections from the menus. The Network and Dial-up Connection window appears. Double click the Make New Connection icon. The Network Connection Wizard begins. Click the Next button to continue. Select the option Dial-up to the Internet. Click the Next button to continue. The Internet Connection Wizard begins. Select the option I want to set up my Internet connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network (LAN). Click the Next button to continue. Select the option Connect using my phone line. Click the Next button to continue. Select the option Create a new dial-up connection. Click the Next button to continue. Note: If there are no other connections set up, you go directly to the next screen.
Click the Next button to continue. User name = Enter the username Password = Enter your password Note: Passwords are case-sensitive. Ensure your Caps Lock is Disabled. Click the Next button to continue. Connection name = VIF Internet Click the Next button to continue. Do you want to set up an Internet mail account now?: The following window allows you the option to set up Outlook Express, select No. Click the Next button to continue. That's it. Click the Finish button to complete the Internet Connection Wizard. Create a Shortcut: To create a shortcut to the connection, do the following: On the Desktop, click the Start button and select Settings → Network and Dial-Up Connections from the menus. The Network and Dial-up Connections window appears. Right click the connection and select Create Shortcut from the menu. A window will pop-up to tell you that you can't create a shortcut here. You didn't want it here, anyway. Click the Yes button to put the shortcut on the Desktop. The shortcut will look like the picture below: Double click the shortcut to connect to the Internet. Note: Don't forget to open your browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape) after connecting. |
